After everyone had finished discussing how to modify the excavator and develop molybdenum steel, Luo Chong had Lin Fei take them to see the unfinished Corn Harvester.
The Corn Harvester and grain harvester had both been modified from the platform of a loader. They removed the enormous bucket at the front, then transplanted the harvester's operating system onto it. It was still the same vehicle, only its function had changed.
Following Luo Chong's proposal, the dozens of moving modules at the front of the entire Corn Harvester would all be powered by compressed air. This would eliminate the bulky, heavy, and highly complicated rigid transmission system.
A new loader body had now been built. The Agricultural Machinery Research Group and Pneumatic Tools Group were modifying it together. They had installed an Air Compressor on the Steam Engine at the rear of the vehicle, then laid rubber hoses to direct the high-pressure air toward the front.
The Agricultural Machinery Group was responsible for designing the functions and appearance, while the Pneumatic Tools Group was responsible for developing the internal moving components. In fact, there was hardly anything to develop: they only needed to copy the internal structure of the existing Air Screwdriver.
The only difference was that they had to change its size and add several more layers of air filters. Agricultural machinery worked in a different environment from pneumatic tools in factories. Factories mostly had oil stains and iron filings, while farmland had large amounts of dust and bits of straw. Floating in the air, these things could easily clog the Air Compressor's valves.
The harvesting system had not yet been installed on the vehicle. Instead, it had been placed on a rack nearby and powered by an external mobile Air Compressor while they inspected the moving modules. The entire
