Three people slept in one shelter, and each combat group had three squads, so there were only nine shelters in total.
The nine snow mounds were scattered along the edge of the forest, hardly conspicuous. They looked just like snow that had fallen from pine trees unable to bear its weight. Snow mounds like these were everywhere in the forest—who could have guessed that so many deadly enemies were hidden inside them?
Everyone worked until evening, finally finishing all the shelters. They then returned to the Underground Outpost to eat dinner together, filled their canteens with hot water, and went back to their respective shelters to sleep.
Before leaving, You Ye and Lu Ping reminded them that they only needed to sleep well at night and did not have to worry about enemies coming over. The temperature here was much colder at night than during the day, so even if the enemies came, they would inevitably only emerge to move about at noon. There was no need to worry at night.
Everyone understood and soon returned to their own snow houses, where they dropped their heads and fell into a deep sleep.
They spent the night peacefully. The next morning, all three positions around the river mouth were utterly silent. At around eleven or twelve, You Ye suddenly nudged Qu Bing, who was lying beside him, with his foot.
"The enemies are here." Seeing Qu Bing look over in confusion, You Ye immediately lowered his voice and whispered.
Qu Bing's spirits lifted. They had been here for more than ten days, and he was finally seeing the enemy?!
Curious, he looked in the direction You Ye was pointing and found that a group of disheveled, fur-clad figures had indeed emerged from the forest in formation.
