Background

Qian Wende entered the Shen Family as a martial student. He was already known for cheating children out of food in the alleys, and caused his first major incident by attempting to take more than his allotted share of Qi Channel Opening Soup. When Chen Yun's arrival made the risk of expulsion clear, he immediately knelt and begged forgiveness; he later realized that Zhuang Jin and Xiong Lei had likely spared him from a far worse outcome. 6 7

Qian Wende is opportunistic, thick-skinned, and highly adaptive. When facing people of greater status or potential value, he can suppress resentment, flatter relentlessly, and make himself useful; when he believes someone has little value, he is prone to taking petty advantages or abandoning them. Qian's attempt to steal extra Qi Channel Opening Soup establishes his greed and survival instincts. Rather than hold a visible grudge after being humiliated, he attempts to turn Zhuang Jin and Xiong Lei into useful connections by sharing information and seeking joint training. 6 8 9

Within the dormitory, he repeatedly takes advantage of Xiong Lei and Jiao Kun while maintaining a friendly front. His involvement in the teacup incident and his decision to side with Jiao Kun against Lin Hong contribute to the dormitory's collapse into factions. 31 37 38

Alignment with Zhuang Jin

Zhuang Jin's breakthrough to the Second Meridian Realm convinces Qian that he had backed the wrong person in Xiang Qichen. Qian attacks Xiang Qichen, declares his loyalty to Zhuang Jin, and thereafter makes himself useful through intelligence work, errands, and conspicuous attentiveness. 40 41 46

His usefulness earns tangible rewards. He receives 20 battle merits and 30 taels of silver for his contribution to the raid on the Medicine King Gang hideout, becoming even more devoted to following Zhuang Jin. 85 86

Qing'an Street appointment and downfall

After reaching the Four Meridian Realm, Qian is appointed Street Guardian of Qing'an Street. Zhuang Jin warns him not to overreach or violate Great Qian law, but Qian soon abuses the authority and profits of the position. 141

His coercion of subordinates and their wives causes the Qing'an Street martial artists to seek outside help. Once Bi Kai and Lin Hong verify the accusations, Zhuang Jin confronts him and severs their bond, transferring him to North of the City. Qian later recognizes that his status and safety had depended almost entirely on Zhuang Jin's influence. 144 145 161 188
