The Orcish army poured into the streets like a tide, only to find that the defenders had retreated into grey-black brick and stone watchtowers.
These watchtowers were arranged in hexagonal or circular patterns, each looking like a crouching steel hedgehog.
"Boom!"
The artillery atop one of the watchtowers suddenly spat tongues of fire, and the grapeshot swept across the entire street. The Orcish warriors charging at the very front collapsed in droves, their blood pooling into small streams on the bluestone pavement.
"Watch the right!" Just as Aguirre, who was directing the battle from afar, shouted out, the firing ports on the second floor of another watchtower on the west side spat out more than a dozen tongues of fire.
Lead bullets rattled against the heavy shields, but several Orcish warriors were still mowed down by bullets that passed through the gaps.
Aguirre immediately retreated to a safe distance, surrounded by his guards.
The design of these buildings was extremely tricky. The bottom layer was built of heavy rock, and the Orcish warriors who scrambled desperately to the front could only spark up their battleaxes by hacking at it. The firing ports distributed across the third to fifth layers were arranged in a honeycomb shape, allowing the defenders' muskets to fire 360 degrees without dead zones. The platform at the top was equipped with light artillery, which could bombard the distant Orcish assembly points at any time.
The most terrifying thing was the cooperation between the watchtowers. They were staggered, and when the Orcish forces concentrated on attacking one of them, the other nearby watchtowers immediately provided crossfire support.
An Orcish Centurion finally managed to lead men to smash open the wooden door of the south tower, only to find that there was only a deep Underground Passage inside, and
