This was a facility built underground specifically for researching Demon Scarabs.
Since one of Alice's main goals in coming to Mistgun was to obtain a sample of the Antares Mutant Strain, everyone came here first before heading to the Omni-Fusion Alchemy Department.

Amid the clearly audible footsteps, Luo Zhen, Flon, Alice, and Chris—the four of them—walked down the underground laboratory's corridor toward the Fifth Laboratory, where highly confidential research was conducted.
The four of them did not speak at all along the way, merely walking in silence.
The temperature was carefully controlled by the air-conditioning.
Bright lights shone from all around them.
As Academy Director, Chris used her security pass to unlock the automatic door to the Fifth Laboratory, leading everyone inside.
"Ugh..."
As soon as they entered, the girls immediately frowned.
A somewhat unpleasant odor filled the air, making them instinctively recoil.
But compared with the scene before their eyes, this mere odor was nothing.
It was an unexpectedly vast and spacious laboratory.
The room stretched deep into the rear, with countless cables and screen-like devices operating throughout it.

"This place is a highly confidential facility to ordinary students. Within Mistgun, it's a secret area known only to a small number of higher-ups. Without the committee's permission and an access pass, no one besides the relevant researchers can enter."
