Luo Zhen asked for confirmation, just in case.
"Of course." Ereshkigal answered without hesitation. "I am Ereshkigal, the mistress of the underworld's depths, entrusted with the underworld. Taking in all humans and all souls into this underworld is both the meaning of my existence and my duty. I am merely doing what my duty requires—bringing all human souls into this underworld. Are you trying to say that this is wrong?"
If this was wrong, then why had she been required to take up her post in the underworld?
If this was wrong, then why had the gods presumptuously sacrificed her as the cornerstone of this subterranean world?
The gods had created the underworld to manage the dead, while Ereshkigal had been unilaterally thrust into this place by gods who were unwilling to take up the post themselves. She had become a goddess who could not take a single step outside and could only manage the dead forever.
Since this was the only identity and duty she possessed, then if carrying it through to the end was wrong, it would prove that the gods had been wrong from the very beginning.
"They took everything from me and gave me only this duty and mission. So now, naturally, I will fulfill this duty and mission to the very end."
Ereshkigal declared this.
"Do you want to deny me? Humanity's final Master!"
Hearing this, it was Luo Zhen's turn to fall silent.
Seeing Luo Zhen like this, everyone grew anxious as well.
"What are you being silent for!?"
