By this account, Gan Mingfeng and Lu Hou'er's greatest opportunity on this trip to Lishou Mountain was in fact obtaining the Demon Subduing Great Incantation imparted by Meng Zhao.
The incantation's power was secondary; its effects in assisting cultivation and breaking through bottlenecks were what made it truly precious.
Yet upon closer distinction, the two men's experiences were subtly different.
Lu Hou'er had two strands of Demonic Nature within him: one innate Demonic Nature, and one Xingtian Demonic Nature. What he suppressed with the Demon Subduing Great Incantation was the Xingtian Demonic Nature, while he focused on excavating his own Demonic Nature—a matter of elevating one while trampling the other.
This was under his control. Whichever side was weak, he supported it; whichever side was strong, he suppressed it.
The fundamental purpose was to nurture and elevate his own foundation, natural endowment, and spirit, in pursuit of the moment when he would break out of his cocoon and turn into a butterfly.
Gan Mingfeng's Xingtian Demonic Nature, meanwhile, had fused with the black lotus imprint deep within his heart. Once the Demon Subduing Great Incantation was activated, it too flowed like a trickling stream into a great river, likewise merging into that black lotus.
No, to be precise, the lotus was no longer purely black. It had become interwoven black and gold, half demonic and half Buddhist. Whether one ebbed as the other grew, or one grew as the other ebbed, it would only make the lotus's power stronger.
Gan Mingfeng found this change strange as well, so he sought Meng Zhao's guidance. A Great Grandmaster of Martial Dao like him was surely far more proficient in Martial Dao Cultivation than Gan Mingfeng, and he hoped to receive some pointers.
