Meng Zhao caught the implication in the Heavenly Demon Palace Lord's words. With a faintly disappointed sigh, he said,
"Unfortunately, I had thought the Heavenly Demon Palace Lord was some truly formidable figure. Who would have expected you to use such clumsy rhetoric, trying to lure me into doubting myself? Do you not know that we martial artists cultivate ourselves? So long as we can reach the absolute summit without betraying our own hearts, then any of the myriad paths may be taken.
I have indeed cultivated the Demonic Path, and I acknowledge some of its principles. However, that path is merely sustenance for my own pursuit of power."
The Heavenly Demon Palace Lord had not expected Meng Zhao to be so frank. He transmitted his voice again,
"I did not expect you to be so direct. You are indeed unlike those common hypocrites. But do you truly believe that every one of the world's myriad paths can be traversed, or even should be traversed?"
Meng Zhao smiled. In Yu Nanfeng and Xie Wanzhi's eyes, he was clearly so close, yet he seemed incomparably distant, like a god in the heavens looking down upon all living things, carrying an ethereal air that stood above the mortal world and transcended the Divine Continent.
They could not describe what sort of bearing it was—immortal, demonic, or Buddhist? It seemed to be all of them, yet none of them!
"Heavenly Demon Palace Lord, it seems you wish to debate the Dao with me. Fine, then let me speak with you.
In my view, the Demonic Path is naturally one branch of the Great Dao. In ancient times, they were called Gods and Devils, like the two polar extremes of yin and yang in this world, the opposing pairs of heaven and earth.
