Outside Little Cold Mountain Temple, with all the turmoil and the boisterous spectacle of many clans, Meng Zhao and the young man from the Heavenly Wolf Tribe could no longer see any of it. After following the Bull Demon Clan monk into the temple, they were quickly drawn in by the buildings and arrangements within.
Little Cold Mountain Temple actually traced its origins to Great Compassion Temple. Great Compassion Temple, in turn, was the royal temple of the Beitang Imperial Clan. Though the atmosphere of Buddhist learning within was certainly strong, it often represented the imperial clan's stance and was not as pure as Mountaintop Temple, a Sacred Land of Buddhism.
Thus, Little Cold Mountain Temple also contained many things utterly out of place in a Buddhist temple.
For instance, Meng Zhao and the young man from the Heavenly Wolf Tribe now passed a massive martial arts ground paved with black square bricks. Walking upon them not only felt firm and solid, but one also felt a powerful magnetic force pulling downward, making every step difficult. It was of great benefit to Martial Dao Cultivation, especially the tempering of movement techniques and the physical body.
For example, more than ten wooden weapon racks were displayed around this black-brick training ground. Upon them lay sabers, spears, swords, and halberds; axes, battle-axes, hooks, and forks—in short, all eighteen kinds of weapons. This was unlike ordinary Buddhist temples, where staves were most common, followed by sabers and swords.
The Bull Demon Clan monk explained the details to Meng Zhao and the young man from the Heavenly Wolf Tribe wherever they went. Perhaps the two would settle down and cultivate in Little Cold Mountain Temple in the future; currying favor in advance cost him little effort.
