When Yang Cai finally finished circulating his cultivation and rose to inspect his surroundings, he discovered Meng Zhao standing on a battered, hole-riddled stone slab not far away, gazing toward the foot of the mountain. Beyond layer upon layer of cloud seas, who knew what he saw? His expression was distant and calm.
Then he noticed a patch of bloodstains, not yet dry, in the direction where Tie Xiongfei and Zhao Hun had been. His brows twitched as he asked,
"Did you kill those two?"
While Yang Cai had been circulating his cultivation to heal, his mind had been wholly focused, his spirit traveling beyond all things. He had received no feedback or awareness whatsoever from the outside world.
Seeing the mottled bloodstains and recalling Meng Zhao's astonishing martial attainment, he could not help but ask.
Meng Zhao shook his head. Only after turning back to glance at Yang Cai and seeing that his injuries had improved considerably did he explain,
"I originally wanted to capture the two of them, but Zhao Hun ambushed Tie Xiongfei. Using the Blazing Demon Furnace's martial art, he devoured all of Tie Xiongfei's true qi, then used the Heavenly Demon Blood Escape to flee. Though I wished to kill him, there was nothing I could do."
Yang Cai was greatly shocked. Looking at the bloodstained spot, he indeed discerned some clues.
With his powers of observation and deduction, he could see that the truth was largely as Meng Zhao had said, though his feelings were indescribably complicated.
There was some relief, some disappointment, but above all, surprise.
Meng Zhao did not wish to say more about Zhao Hun and asked,
"Who exactly are you? Why were you willing to work for Zhao Hun? Tell me first. Perhaps I can help you as well."
