If one were to name the most miserable person in this inferno, it probably wasn't Cheng Shi, who had been turned into a target, but Wu Cun, who had been "innocently" burned.
Of course, Wu Cun's misery didn't lie in whether she was burned or not. She had woven the power of annihilation into a shield around herself, so the falling flames hadn't truly posed a threat to her. The real threat to her was... a madman who looked exactly like a mummy.
Yes, her "innocence" had been forced upon her by Cheng Shi.
Cheng Shi had also been driven to desperation. When he realized there was nowhere beneath his feet to stand and no end to the fire above his head, he wanted to break out of the deadlock and catch his breath. No matter how Cheng Shi approached, Qin Xin could always rely on the Hunter's agility to rapidly widen the distance, then turn and fire two shots, making the rain of fire even more violent. After four or five rounds of this, Cheng Shi had nearly run out of ways to close in. Even the Dice he had buried were about to be burned to ashes by the all-encompassing flames.
With no other choice, Cheng Shi could only settle for second best.
If I can't beat a believer of war, I can take a step back and fight a believer of annihilation.
And so, Wu Cun became Cheng Shi's shield
