Third Order, Pre-Knight Levi (Asking for Follow-up Reads)
"Stormwind City—isn't that the city in my father's Storm Territory?"
Levi muttered to himself. What Grimm had described perfectly matched Levi's idea of a Wizard: strange, powerful, and unfathomably mysterious!
"Though I can't rule out the possibility that Grimm really was insane."
"No matter what, at least the sea near Stormwind City might become one of my clues."
Levi silently noted this down, then flipped through some of the other travel notes. None of them had anything to do with Wizards, nor did he find any useful clues, so he burned the travel notes in one fire.
"If only there were the internet."
Levi sighed.
After that, he threw himself back into training. He was very close to breaking through to the Third Order of the breathing technique. This month, he would be able to break through and become a Pre-Knight.
During this period, apart from training, Levi went to the Three Little Bears' Bear Pen every day to check on the cubs' physical condition.
If all three cubs could survive, then in the future, he would have three knight-level Northern Giant Bears. Looking across the entire Kingdom, that would be one of a kind.
When the time came, he would not even need to ride a warhorse. He could ride a Northern Giant Bear directly, and even have a set of custom armor forged for it.
Just imagining the sight of riding an armored giant bear as it charged wildly across the battlefield made Levi's blood boil with excitement.
It reminded him of a scene from a fantasy movie in his previous life, "The Golden Compass."
This was the kind of mount that fit the style of a world of swords and magic! To let these three little fellows grow up healthy, Levi had truly put in great effort.
He specially assigned three Militia to look after them around the clock. Every day, they were fed fish, wolf meat, venison, Goat Milk, cow's milk, and occasionally some vegetarian food, preventing poor development or death due to a lack of certain elements during the cubs' growth period.
Levi interacted with the cubs every day, using the most traditional and most effective method to tame these three wild cubs: getting familiar with them.
In fact, many mammals, no matter how wild they were, could still gradually develop affection if raised from a young age.
Levi also specially bought a beast-taming book, "Clown Circus Beast Taming Introduction," along with works by some Kingdom scholars who studied Northern Giant Bears.
Then, to Levi's surprise, after reading "Clown Circus Beast Taming Introduction," a new skill actually appeared on Levi's Proficiency Panel: Levi—
Black Snake Breathing Technique: Second Order (4899/5000) Golden Cross Slash: Third Order (56/10000), special effect: Advanced Vibration Beast Taming: First Order (66/1000) ...
"This works too?"
Levi was dumbfounded. All this time, he had never figured out the standard by which the Proficiency Panel recorded skills. The only thing he could be sure of was that combat skills and breathing techniques could be recorded. As for other life skills, whether they were recorded or not seemed entirely up to the Proficiency Panel's mood.
No matter what, having an extra skill made Levi very happy.
Moreover, this skill was a practical one. For his current self, it could even be said to be help arriving in the snow.
To verify his guess, Levi began asking Knight Fred to buy him beast-taming-related books from all over the country.
"Klen Tribe Beast Taming Manual," "Royal Circus Beast Taming Notes," "High Mountain Tribe Eagle Taming Methods."
In short, he began purchasing all kinds of beast-taming books at high prices.
One had to know that in this era, the price of books was very high.
But for the sake of grinding experience, Levi could only take out part of the money he had been keeping at the bottom of his chest.
This left Knight Fred very puzzled.
"Young Master, are you trying to become a beast tamer now?"
Knight Fred did not know whether to laugh or cry.
"No, Lord Fred. I only want to use the correct methods to tame those three cubs. These little fellows are far too wild. Every time I go over now, they roar at me," Levi said seriously.
"All right, but we don't have much money left on the books now. Only sixty-eight Gold Coins," Knight Fred said helplessly with a shrug.
"Don't worry, Knight Fred. I know what I'm doing," Levi said.
Collecting books would take some time. During this period, Levi still used his own rustic methods to tame the beasts. The most important thing was the temptation of good food. After all, what bear could refuse fragrant roast venison slathered in honey?
On one hand, those three little fellows were still very fierce toward Levi. On the other hand, they ate Levi's food with perfect confidence, as if it were only right and proper.
For a while, Levi even suspected he was playing a Pokémon game.
Seven days later, Levi's breathing technique finally broke through to the Third Order. He felt his entire body, every limb and bone, filled with strength. When he circulated the breathing technique, his breathing frequency far surpassed usual. Large amounts of oxygen were inhaled, the oxygen content in his blood surged sharply, and every aspect of his physical quality improved explosively. In the cold winter, faint wisps of white steam drifted over the surface of Levi's body, while three streams of white mist spat from his mouth and nose. His muscles and bones rumbled inside him, like a sleeping cat giving off a faint engine-like purr.
After training for more than a year, Levi had finally reached the standard of a Pre-Knight.
He opened the Proficiency Panel.
Levi Snake— Black Snake Breathing Technique: Third Order (1/10000). ...
"Finally, Third Order."
Levi let out a breath of relief. Next, he had to keep tempering his body. Once his condition reached its peak, when he completed the Third Order, he would condense his own Seed of Life and then become a Formal Knight!
"However, Pre-Knight is already a watershed. Among most people who practice breathing techniques, more than ninety percent are stopped before this threshold, and only one percent have any chance of breaking through to become Formal Knights."
Levi moved his muscles and bones, feeling the explosive power inside his body.
The current him no longer needed armor to use his sword skills to kill five Mountain Sitting Wolves.
After stepping into Pre-Knight, his physical qualities had improved in all aspects. They should be more than three times that of an ordinary adult man, especially his flesh and skin.
Levi lifted his clothes, revealing the eight rock-hard abdominal muscles underneath. His bronze skin gave off a sheen. He struck his own stomach with a punch using thirty percent of his strength.
"A little painful, but still fine."
"After all, my strength itself is already several times that of an ordinary adult man."
"If it were an ordinary person using fists and feet in normal combat, without attacking vital points, they should find it very hard to cause the current me any damage. This is the power of the Black Snake Breathing Technique."
And this was only Pre-Knight. If he became a Formal Knight—
Levi estimated that the moment he stepped into that level, his physical qualities should be five times that of an ordinary person, about the same as Knight Fred, who had entered the Formal Knight realm long ago.
The power of an excellent-grade breathing technique was now showing itself.
As for becoming a Great Knight like his father, that meant physical qualities more than ten times those of an ordinary person. He would simply be a monster.
