"The wolves are coming!"
"The wolves are coming! Run!"
"The wolves are coming! Help!"
Cries rang through Blackwater Valley.
Gaunt Mountain Sitting Wolves darted through the fields and around the cattle and sheep pens behind the houses.
How could these livestock possibly be a match for the exceptionally vicious Mountain Sitting Wolves?
"Damn it!"
"Die!"
Militiamen wielded longswords, wearing simple armor woven from vines and carrying wooden shields as they fought the wolf pack. But many of them had already been scared out of their wits by the terrifying wolves.
Sam, a young man who had only joined the militia this year, gripped his Knight Sword with trembling hands, his limbs shaking. Though he had already mastered basic combat skills, and his training results ranked among the best of these militiamen.
But now, when he truly faced those terrifying Mountain Sitting Wolves, the pressure rushing at him head-on, that bloody reek, made him tremble uncontrollably.
"Sam, what are you doing? Fight!" a Militia Captain roared from the distance.
"Captain... I... my legs won't listen to me," the young man named Sam said, crying. His crotch was already wet, and in the cold winter it quickly froze over. He had, in the truest sense, pissed himself in fear.
It was just like some birds, after narrowly escaping from the talons of a raptor, would still be paralyzed on the ground from the stress response.
After humans suffered sudden fright and terror, they too could fall into a state where their minds went blank. This was the fear of bloodthirsty beasts that, before the age of civilization, had been carved into their bones.
A Mountain Sitting Wolf, its eyes glowing with a green, ghostly light, roared and pounced toward Sam.
It had already been hungry for a month. After a month without finding food, it could no longer care about its fear of the iron and fire created by humans. It only wanted to eat meat, whether animal... or human.
"Mother, I'm going into Heavenly Father's arms too." Sam closed his eyes, his mind a tangled mess.
Just then, the sound of something tearing through the air came.
A sharp arrow split the sky and, with lightning speed, nailed the lunging Mountain Sitting Wolf in the head.
The Mountain Sitting Wolf whimpered, staggered, and fell to the ground. It screamed, then died not long after.
Sam was still in a daze, unable to tell for a moment whether he was still alive.
Until a broad, powerful hand patted Sam's shoulder.
"Heavenly Father will not accept a coward who gives up struggling. Stand up, grip the longsword in your hand, and fight with your Lord!"
Levi walked over from behind and woke up this soldier who had been scared stupid.
He could not help sighing inwardly. With soldiers like this, how were they supposed to go to war? They still lacked real combat experience! With that said, Levi leaped forward and arrived directly in front of another Mountain Sitting Wolf.
Levi's arm shook like a phantom! The sharp blade left its sheath. Golden Cross Slash!
The power of Advanced Vibration!
Crack.
The Mountain Sitting Wolf's head was sliced off directly by the sword light. A pillar of blood sprayed out, splattering Levi's face.
[Golden Cross Slash proficiency +3] He licked the blood from the corner of his mouth, then drew his bow and nocked an arrow, shooting dead a hungry wolf that was ripping open a cow's belly fifty meters away.
"Sam, don't be afraid. No matter how sharp a wolf's fangs are, they can't beat the longsword in your hand. Keep fighting." Knight Fred came over, patted Sam's shoulder, and comforted him.
Sam wiped away his tears. He looked at the young Lord ahead, who had cut off a Mountain Sitting Wolf's head with one slash.
He was only fourteen, five years younger than Sam, still completely a child.
Yet the courage and fearlessness the young Lord displayed made him feel like such a useless waste.
Sam! What kind of man are you? What kind of man?! "Kill!" Sam's legs trembled as he charged toward several Mountain Sitting Wolves that were surrounding and attacking his companions.
On the other side, Knight Fred saw that Levi had already gone on a killing spree and hurriedly followed.
A wolf pack of this scale was bound to have a wolf king.
And one capable of ruling such a large wolf pack was most likely not weak.
Although no trace of the wolf king had been found so far, Knight Fred believed the wolf king was definitely watching all of this from the shadows.
Sure enough, a long howl rang out from halfway up the mountain.
A Mountain Sitting Wolf King the size of an adult male polar bear coldly watched Levi and Knight Fred slaughtering below.
With its biological instinct, it could sense that those two humans were very strong, especially that middle-aged man.
If it did not get rid of these two humans, the losses among the wolves under its command might be even more severe than in the last battle with the Northern Giant Bear. After all, human intelligence and weapons were not something the Northern Giant Bear could compare to.
Moreover, on that human youth, it had smelled the scent of the Northern Giant Bear. And that youth's scent, it had also sensed on the bodies of its dead companions.
So, the highly intelligent mutated wolf king made up its mind this time. No matter what, it had to get rid of these two humans.
Its figure leaped like a white specter, swiftly racing down the mountain. Even a cheetah's burst of speed was far inferior to this wolf king's.
In a sense, for some unknown reason, the mutated wolf king could no longer be considered an ordinary wild beast.
Like a knight, it had broken through the strength limit of the Mountain Sitting Wolf species. It was no longer a mortal wolf.
Down below the mountain, by Levi's side, quite a few Mountain Sitting Wolf corpses had already piled up. After those Mountain Sitting Wolves discovered this vicious god that was Levi, they did not flee.
Instead, one after another, they surrounded him fearlessly, trying to rely on their numerical advantage to bite Levi to death alive. But Knight Fred guarded Levi at all times.
As a retainer of the Black Serpent Family, his mission was to protect the Lord's safety.
And facing these packs of wolves, Knight Fred also showed his terrifying strength in front of Levi for the first time.
The longsword in his hand was like an airtight wall. Any Mountain Sitting Wolf that tried to ambush him was cut down by Knight Fred in a single slash.
Not a single Mountain Sitting Wolf could withstand one move from Knight Fred.
But Levi could also tell that at this moment, Knight Fred had already used the power of the Breathing Technique. He breathed in great gulps, and in the bitter winter, white steam rose from his entire body. His eyes began to turn from gentle to fierce.
"Young Master, a powerful enemy is coming. I will face it with all my strength. Protect yourself," Knight Fred said coldly. He also called five militiamen from nearby to guard Levi's surroundings, protecting him in the middle.
Levi nodded. He too saw a white line rapidly charging over from the distance. It was a Frost White Giant Wolf, like white lightning, rushing into this battlefield. The three militiamen in front of it were all knocked flying with ease, and one of them was even split open by a wolf claw, dying in a horrific state.
"The wolf king!" Levi said coldly.
With the militiamen's protection, he drew his bow and shot at the wolf king with Full Level Archery!
Even when facing moving prey, Levi had always been able to hit every shot.
But this time, facing the wolf king, though the arrow hit, it was knocked aside by the wolf king's sharp claw.
"What kind of speed is that?" Levi was shocked.
"Lord Fred, be careful. This wolf king is not simple!" Levi hurriedly warned him.
This wolf king's strength was definitely even more formidable than an ordinary knight powerhouse.
To Levi, it was more terrifying than a hundred ordinary Mountain Sitting Wolves.
