Acting on the principle that it was better to kill the wrong man than let one slip by, Levi put the soldier who had tried to sneak away in the middle of the night through a harsh interrogation.
In the end, he discovered that the soldier really was a mole, an undercover agent bought by the Voice of the Deathbird to make assassination easier.
He had already infiltrated them for some time. Back when Knight Fred had left the castle, it was this man who had gone to tip off the broker from the Voice of the Deathbird.
Only then had that assassin taken advantage of Knight Fred's departure to sneak into Levi's castle at night and attempt to assassinate him.
Of course, what this mole had not told the broker from the Voice of the Deathbird was that Levi had already advanced to knight. Because Levi had only recently advanced to Formal Knight, only he and Fred knew about it, which caused that assassin to capsize in the gutter.
But this mole did not know who the major client behind the assassination was.
The Voice of the Deathbird was, after all, a professional team. When it came to keeping client secrets, they truly did an excellent job.
But since someone could hire assassins multiple times, even hiring a Mid-Rank Knight, that also showed that the mastermind behind the scenes was very likely exactly what Levi and Knight Fred had guessed.
"Black Mountain Duke!"
Levi narrowed his eyes, killing intent chilling around him as he considered his countermeasures.
The Black Mountain Duke had been able to hire assassins twice. That meant this man would never stop until he achieved his goal.
Given the Black Mountain Duke's strength and status, Levi could already imagine how difficult his future would be.
