Calculating

The constable had a gaunt face and spoke in a low voice. "The scouts ahead spotted the caravan's trail. Constable Sun has already taken men and gone after them."

Lin Fan nodded. "Lead the way."

The carriage traveled along the official road. With a hundred constables following behind, the procession swept forward in grand fashion, quite an impressive sight.

Soon, the carriage stopped in front of a dilapidated temple.

A broad-shouldered man with a stern face approached Lin Fan with steady steps and said, "Lord Lin, they're all dead."

Lin Fan climbed down from the carriage and looked up to see corpses strewn across the ground. Stranger still, not the slightest trace of living soul remained within them. Their lives had been reaped, and even their souls had vanished without a trace.

Lin Fan suddenly asked, "Aren't you afraid of death?"

The man froze. "My lord, what do you mean?"

Lin Fan smiled and suddenly reached out, grabbing the other man by the neck. The broad-shouldered man's face flushed dark red.

He instinctively struggled, but that large hand was like an iron vise, impossible to budge even a fraction.

"Lord Lin?"

The other constables stared at Lin Fan in bewilderment. None of them understood why he had suddenly attacked one of their own.

Lin Fan offered no explanation. With a slight increase in pressure, the man's face suddenly twisted and transformed, revealing a ferocious fox's head.

"It's a fox demon!"

Everyone trembled from head to toe.

"How did you see through me?" the fox demon asked, baffled.
