Background / History

Lin Tu and his wife Qin Hui abandoned their comfortable lives and concealed their identities as rural farmers, raising their younger son Lin Tianyi in Lin Family Village. Their intention was to keep Tianyi from becoming a wastrel like their eldest son, Lin Aotian; the village itself was staffed by Lin Tu's subordinates, who knew Tianyi's true identity. 2 5

His birth name is Lin Hongtu. He and Qin Hui shortened their names while posing as commoners, and a marquis later identifies him as Duke Lin—the most powerful duke in the Heaven Dou Empire. Rumors that Tianyi had died shortly after birth were part of the family's efforts to cultivate him away from the attention and privileges of the ducal household. 16 46

When Tianyi is taken to a brothel by Lin Aotian, Lin Tu personally confronts and punishes Aotian. He subsequently forbids his eldest son from seeing Tianyi without permission, declaring that the family's hopes rest on the younger child. 1 2

Tianyi's exceptional talent repeatedly forces Lin Tu to adjust his original plan. He accepts the protection of a supposed Title Douluo teacher, arranges Tianyi's enrollment at Heaven Dou Royal Junior Soul Master Academy, and quietly handles recruitment attempts from Heaven Dou City's major forces. 7 15 20

He is also cautious and politically aware. Lin Tu recognizes when Tianyi is concealing dangerous information, but chooses not to press him after concluding that the unknown woman connected to two Title Douluo means no harm. 20 Despite his concern that Tianyi's fame could foster arrogance, he takes open pride in his youngest son's accomplishments. 20
