Background

Jiang Zhi was the youngest junior brother among a generation of Junzi Temple true disciples known as the Dao Sect Nine Swords. At their height, the Dao Sect held three of the era's Four Great Divine Swords and suppressed the Sword Sect in sword cultivation. 147

The catastrophe of the Fifth Layer of the Origin Spirit Realm devastated his generation: most of his senior brothers and sisters died, while others were left insane. Jiang Zhi became one of the Dao Sect's highest-ranking surviving figures, and the loss of his peers—particularly his admired Fifth Senior Brother, Zhong Ming—shaped his fixation on the Origin Spirit Realm and its threats. 147 163 223

He previously reached the Ninth Realm, but voluntarily regressed his cultivation and sealed his Destined Sword in order to nurture it. Even after this regression, he remains an Eighth Realm powerhouse whose combat ability greatly exceeds ordinary cultivators of the same realm. 219 292 349

While wandering the mortal world as a Storyteller, Jiang Zhi located Xu Ziqing and arranged for him to reach the Dao Sect as the intended Sword Attendant. Li Chunsong mistakenly brought Chu Huai Xu to the sect instead, creating the chain of deviations that disrupted Jiang Zhi's plans. 126 129 130

Appearance

Jiang Zhi is a middle-aged man of ordinary appearance who commonly wears white robes and white shoes. 126 263

  • His plain looks contrast sharply with his intense vanity; he is known to use Beauty, Skin-Moisturizing, and Youth-Preserving Pills. 128
  • He habitually adjusts his hair and studies his reflection, particularly the strands framing his forehead. 205 263
  • His white robes, calm bearing, and clasped hands often project an image of composure and calculated wisdom. 126 163

Personality

Jiang Zhi is arrogant, blunt, and intensely proud of his status as a powerful sword cultivator. He often presents himself as a man who has everything under control, imitating the calm and reassuring manner of Zhong Ming—the senior brother he most admires. 163

His poor social instincts make him overbearing toward disciples, especially when the Origin Spirit Realm or the Great Tribulation is involved. He repeatedly pressures Chu Huai Xu to cultivate and initially treats him as an unpredictable variable rather than a person with his own priorities. 170 200 201

Despite his harshness, Jiang Zhi is deeply protective of those he recognizes as his own. His concern for Zhong Ming, his extensive training of Xu Ziqing, and his eventual defense of Chu Huai Xu reveal a strong sense of responsibility beneath his abrasive conduct. 130 195 378
