Christmas had come around again.
Adam drove Paige to Washington.
Not long ago, they had received word that Paige's mother Linda and her husband David, after trying for so long, had finally hit their lucky number.
Adam took the opportunity to visit them over Christmas.
Their first stop was the local hospital.
Hospital room.
"Dr. Duncan, these are the latest ultrasound scans. Mrs. Grossman is perfectly fine."
Robinson, the hospital's Attending Physician in Obstetrics and Gynecology, warmly operated the scanner as she explained things to Adam.
"Mm."
Adam carefully observed the moving image on the screen and confirmed Dr. Robinson's diagnosis.
After making small talk with Dr. Robinson for a while and waiting for her to leave, Adam looked at David and Linda, who had visibly relaxed.
"Do you know the sex yet?"
"We do."
"It's Emma!"
Linda and David smiled. "We originally didn't want to know in advance. We wanted to wait until she was born and have a surprise.
But Angela was too impatient. She ran straight into the doctor's office and peeked at the results.
Once she found out it was the niece she'd always wanted, she got so excited that she couldn't control herself and insisted on telling us!"
"Paige, come take a look."
Seeing that they already knew the sex, Adam stopped holding back. Pointing at the scan, he smiled at Paige. "Your little sister Emma looks so much like you."

Paige looked at the blurry, ugly little figure in the image and had no desire to respond to Adam.
"Adam, you're right."
Linda stroked her stomach and smiled blissfully. "Emma looks exactly like Paige."
"You can tell already?"
Paige couldn't help questioning her. "You don't have Adam's High-Definition Photographic Memory. Twenty years have passed—how could you possibly remember?"
