Columbia University student dormitory.
Room 110.
"Professor Ted."
Having eaten a sandwich, Marshall was dazed and failed to notice that the young Ted before him was no "sir" or "professor." He still looked at him nervously.
"Wow."
Ted sniffed, then showed a knowing expression and teased, "Someone's been eating a sandwich."
"What?"
Marshall was horrified and blurted out, "No, I haven't. I don't even know what a sandwich tastes like. My parents will donate a huge sum to the school."
Ted: ...
Knock, knock.
"Hi, I'm Adam. I'm in room 111 next door."
Adam knocked on the door. Seeing that the two of them really were the faces he remembered, he could not help smiling.
"Hi, Adam. I'm Ted."
Ted wore glasses and was a little handsome. He did not yet have the "deeply affectionate romantic" air he would have in the future. Right now, he seemed rather youthful and bashful. Adam knew it was mainly because he had not yet become a womanizing romantic.
Without enough opponents, there was naturally no way for him to shed that youthful awkwardness and cultivate his own signature "deeply affectionate romantic" routine.
"Marshall."
The other boy, tall and nervous-looking, forced out a faint smile.
"Hi, Marshall."
Adam greeted him warmly.
Compared with Ted, Adam appreciated Marshall more.
Unlike Ted's "deeply affectionate romantic" persona, honed through his womanizing ways, this big dummy before him was truly deeply affectionate and romantic.
He loved only one woman his entire life.
He remained devoted to only one woman his entire life.
Even when he fantasized about another woman, it was in a dream where they had both grown old, his beloved had passed away, and a nurse caring for him pushed him down to comfort him in his grief.
Truly holding hands and growing old together.
