Late at night.
Just as Adam was enthusiastically showing Paige the workings of his imagination.
Ring, ring, ring.
The phone suddenly rang.
"Ignore it!"
Adam glanced at the caller ID.
His profession as a doctor meant that, although he knew who was calling, he still couldn't help taking a look.
After all, lives were at stake.
"Sheldon?"
Paige turned back to look at Adam.
"Mm-hmm."
Adam nodded.
"Answer it already," Paige said with a smile. "You really got under his skin this time. If you don't answer, he'll keep calling."
"Fine."
Adam could have simply left the call hanging and let Sheldon call forever to no avail, but he was worried Sheldon might get so worked up that something happened to him.
Eye twitching and a spasming mouth were both warning signs of a stroke.
"Hi, Sheldon."
"I hate you!"
The moment the call connected, Sheldon's angry yet aggrieved voice came through.
"Mm-hmm."
Adam smiled noncommittally. "To borrow something Mrs. Cooper once said: I'll always love you, my little darling who feeds lions."
