Viewing room.
Adam was looking over X-rays with Lexie.
"Dr. Duncan, your MRI scans."
A hospital staff member walked in and handed Adam a set of scans.
"Isaac, I didn't order any new scans."
Adam said in surprise.
"Maybe they want you for a consultation," Isaac said with a smile. "Go ahead and finish up. I'll have them wait."
"No need."
Adam glanced at him. "Put them up."
"Okay."
Isaac smiled and slid the MRI scans into the viewing panel.
"Oh, my god!"
Lexie took one look and immediately cried out.
"Dr. Grey, what's wrong with these scans?"
Isaac asked with a smile.
"This is a spinal cord tumor."
Lexie's little medical encyclopedia mode activated again. "I know Mayo Clinic once had a case like this. That surgery took seventeen hours.
The Attending Physician had four assistants, one of whom was specifically responsible for coordinating the surgical process.
This tumor is even more complex, more difficult... more perfect.
It could practically be called the King of Tumors.
Any doctor who could complete a surgery like this could live off that accomplishment for the rest of their life."
At that point, she looked at Adam. "Of course, for certain doctors, it would only be one star among many."
"Dr. Grey, do you want to perform this surgery?"
Isaac asked with a meaningful smile.
"Of course."
Lexie nodded without hesitation. "No one could refuse it... except the lead surgeon.
This surgery is far too dangerous.
Very few Attending Physicians would have the courage to operate.
The Mayo Clinic case only took seventeen hours because it failed."
"Exactly."
Isaac nodded. "But I believe Dr. Duncan has the courage, doesn't he?"
"These scans weren't brought here by another doctor. They're yours, Isaac, aren't they?"
Adam said noncommittally. "Is it a family member?"
