A Turkish Arrival in Australasia

As time entered the second month of 1924, Australasia also welcomed an unexpected guest to Arthur: a diplomatic delegation from the Republic of Turkey.

After becoming the first president of the Republic of Turkey, Kemal decided to launch comprehensive reforms throughout the current Republic of Turkey to purge all influences of the old Ottoman Empire and create an entirely new nation for the Turkish people.

After much deliberation, Kemal believed that if Turkey wanted to develop, it had to study Europe's relatively advanced systems and technology and achieve comprehensive Europeanization.

This also meant that the current Republic of Turkey had to find a European Great Power to study, ideally securing massive assistance from this Great Power to help Turkey develop better.

The prominent European Great Powers at present were only Britain and France, with Italy perhaps counting as well.

However, the Republic of Turkey had already turned into adversaries with Britain and France during the previous war, and rushing forward now to study the British and French systems was, to put it politely, like a sheep entering a tiger's den, or to put it bluntly, courting death.

Although Italy was also a European Great Power, compared to other Great Powers, Italy clearly lacked prestige, making it a target not worth studying in Kemal's mind.

Because of this, Turkey was left with only two targets available for study: the United States located in the Americas and Australasia located in the Pacific Ocean.

Although he did not know how Kemal had chosen Australasia as the target, Arthur still welcomed Turkey's diplomatic visit.
