Independent Referendum

With the destruction of the Pacific Fleet, Arthur finally breathed a sigh of relief and at last had time to plan Australasia's future rule over America.

On September 11, 1928, news that set the entire American public ablaze broke.

The governor of California, Calhoun, officially announced California's independence and established the California Provisional Government, placing all of California under military control. He also announced that the form of government and political system of the new country would be decided through the upcoming California-wide referendum.

Even now, California remained America's sixth-most populous state, with approximately 5.1 million permanent residents.

California's declaration of independence was a thunderbolt to America and the US Government.

Anyone with eyes could see that the "military control" California spoke of was actually Australasia's military control; California had practically been propped up into independence by Australasia.

But the problem was that California really had become independent. That was a fact the US Government was utterly powerless to prevent.

California's independence seemed to draw back the curtain on America's fragmentation, and it also caused the state governors' and governments' desire for independence to spread like a prairie fire.

On September 14, the French people, having only just seized Austin, impatiently instructed Texas to declare independence, restore the name Lone Star Republic, and establish a presidential republic.

There were no worries about political systems in the regions controlled by the French people. All they needed to do was push Texas to establish a republic, then seize control of the new republic's economy and military. That alone would complete their rule over the country.

Australasia, however, could not do that. America was, after all, a republic. Turning California smoothly into a monarchy was not so easy; it required various operations as well as propaganda in the sphere of public opinion.
