The fleeing man seemed to be wrapped in shadows as he rapidly and nimbly zigzagged away from the carriage.
"Shoot him!"
Miss Bayes shouted a reminder.
"As if I dare. I mean, I'm out of bullets!"
But a faint silver glow had already lit up in Shade's right hand behind his back. Even if Miss Bayes discovered that he was a Ring Arcanist today, he could not allow a member of the Blood of Mercury who knew his appearance to escape. There might still be a way to remedy ruining Miss Annette's plan, but if the man got away, things would become very troublesome.
But someone was faster than Shade.
"Damn it!"
The brown-haired girl uttered a most unladylike curse. Maintaining a slight crouch, she spun the Brass Destiny Ring behind her at high speed, grinding sparks from the wall behind her as the golden miracle rune of sunlight suddenly flared with spiritual radiance.
Her small black leather shoes left prints in the soft ground of the alley. Her crouched body tilted slightly back and to the right, while her right hand curled loosely, crackling golden thunder flashing within her palm.
Then she abruptly pushed herself up and hurled her hand forward. The bolts of thunder in her hand converged into a golden spear, instantly leaving her palm and tearing through the air, leaving a dazzling golden streak in the alley:
"Sunlight Gun!"
The thunder passed Shade's cheek, leaving behind a scorching sensation. At that instant, he seemed to hear the murmured prayers of a million people.
The thunder shot through the alley, passing through the Brass Destiny Ring behind the fleeing man and striking the man dodging in the shadows with perfect accuracy.
The latter screamed as the Miracle Technique - Sunlight Gun struck him squarely in the back.
