With permission, Shade took the candle from the wooden box and confirmed upon touching it that it was indeed a relic.

He sniffed it lightly. The candle had no scent. Though its surface appeared unmarked, he could feel fine patterns upon it. Only the final stub remained, however. Even if there had once been writing on it, Shade had no way of knowing what it said.

"Document Level (Level 4) relic, Bordeaux Candle. In the year 201 of the Sixth Epoch Common Calendar, Zaras Academy of Literature discovered this relic in Bordeaux, the 'Ghost City' of the central continent. There were twelve candles in total, arranged among the remnants of a ritual, each inserted into the mouth of a corpse. All twelve candles have the same effect: whoever lights and holds one enters an invisible state. While invisible, their body temperature, disturbances to the air, sounds, and so on all vanish. Both conventional and unconventional means of detection can hardly discover someone in this state. You may consider the candle's invisibility nearly impossible to detect.

"Note that no supernatural power may be used while invisible, or the candle will automatically go out. However, the effects of supernatural powers received before lighting the candle will not disappear. Remember, this is invisibility, not entering an unknown space. Therefore, someone in an invisible state can still be attacked."

Quite a few spells and thaumaturgies could achieve so-called "invisibility," but the concealment provided by this candle sounded almost impossible to detect. It would be extremely useful to Shade.

"Can I carry items while invisible? Or do I have to take off all my clothes?"

"Anything in contact with your skin before entering the invisible state, including living creatures, weighing less than twice your own weight, can also become invisible when the candle is lit.
