Shade had actually been looking forward to God's Gift Box giving him some unexpected presents one week. For example, at the start of a brand-new week, he wanted to get something for nothing—a valuable blood sample directly from the Gift Box.
But Innocent Creator did not respond to Shade's desire. This week, it gave him a piece of cream cake as a gift.
Unfortunately, Shade had gotten used to not looking and simply reaching in to take the gift, creating a sense of anticipation for himself.
Therefore, when he reached into the box and felt something soft and fluffy, he immediately thought he had grabbed some unspeakable substance. Fortunately, it was only a handful of cream, which he ate as a midnight snack.
This made the cat furious, since Shade did not share any with it.
And this week's requirement was merely to donate at least half a pound to a children's welfare facility. For Shade, that only meant making a trip outside.
On the first morning of the week, he sent a letter to Miss Galina. By the afternoon, the Duchess's carriage had stopped downstairs at 6 Saint Derain Square. On her way to Yodel Palace to meet Larus III, she happened to have time to see Shade.
In the living room at home, Shade told the witch everything that had happened the previous night and asked her to help examine his eyes.
Logically speaking, any injuries suffered in the past should have disappeared after returning to the present. Yet after leaving the Time Corridor, the starlike specks of light that had appeared in his eyes from drinking the Blood Brew made from Star Sea Whale blood had not vanished at all.
That was probably because this phenomenon could not be considered an injury.
