Without any surprises, Shade's second game in the Great City Player semifinals ended just like his previous one: he entered with 10 copper coins and won 25 in total. This time, he did not draw a Founding Series card during the game, but he unexpectedly drew a Demon card.
The four gentlemen who lost to him were disappointed, but all said at the end that Shade had played well. Virgil Cameron, the man connected to Kasonlik, showed great interest in Shade. Not only did he want to arrange a card game with him sometime, he even wanted to speak with him alone after the game ended.
Naturally, Shade politely refused.
He could tell that Mr. Cameron wanted to be alone with him, and he understood that the man had most likely seen Founding Silver Moon and assumed that he was the "Gray-headed Eagle." But even if Shade wanted to complete the task for the money, he could not possibly speak with him in such a sensitive location.
Besides, he intended to wait until he had news about buying the blood and knew the exact price before deciding whether to complete that 2,000-pound task.
After the game, Baron Lavend stayed in Hall No. 3 to watch others play cards. Shade had been out all day and only wanted to take Mia home for some rest.
But before he left Hall No. 3, a maid dressed like an Opera House attendant hurried into the side hall where the card game was underway after receiving permission from the Seer Association staff. As expected, she stopped in front of Shade.
"Mr. Hamilton, Miss Cavendish would like you to come upstairs."
"Which Miss Cavendish?"
The words slipped out before Shade noticed the strange looks from the people around him.
"You'll know when you get there."
