"Shade, do you know that once you come to this side of the world, you won't be able to return?"

Shade said lightly, then asked Priest Augustus:
"So what exactly is going on? Why did you cross the Gate of Death? What happened here?"
The priest shook his head.
"Since you're already here, I won't explain Life and Death Limbo. Simply put, after I accidentally fell into the Interstice, my sensitivity to the power of death made me realize that something terrible had happened here."
"What kind of problem?"
"The World of the Dead and the world of the living should not be connected. Every Interstice in this world is expanding. From the Second Epoch, when it first appeared, to the Sixth Epoch, this first and largest Interstice is about to reach its limit."
"Sorry, what do you mean by reach its limit?"
Shade still did not understand.
"It's very simple. The world we are in now is a pure world of the dead, and the power accumulated here should exist only here. But because of Life and Death Limbo, the power of death has seeped into the Material World, causing the Interstices to grow larger and more numerous."
Sister Devlin's records had mentioned this.
"Every autumn, the Interstice devours living people to balance the power of death and delay Death Outbreak. The Church has no way to destroy every Interstice, so it can only keep reinforcing the seals. But that has also caused more and more souls unwilling to leave to accumulate within the Interstice."
Judging by the number of souls Shade had just seen, there were far more souls in Life and Death Limbo than there were living people in the Middlesburg region.
"Hasn't The Church sealed it well?"
Shade asked again.
