Shade asked curiously, then noticed the commotion mixed into the sounds coming from outside the window.
He leaned out of the carriage window and discovered that the entrance to Stonemason Street had actually been blocked by two horse-less Four-wheeled Carriages placed sideways. Sandbags and stones had been piled beside them to seal the gaps.
Stonemason Street was even livelier than In the Past. Aside from the spectators, the stonemasons carrying large and small hammers all seemed to have rushed into the street. Though the police were desperately trying to maintain order, they still could not stop the stonemasons, divided into two factions, from hurling abuse and the vilest insults at one another.
Though Shade was only at the street entrance, after jumping down from the carriage, he could still see smoke rising from what seemed to be the finest building on the street where the Stone Masons Association was located. Someone had definitely set a fire there just now.

Iluna also stepped down from the carriage. After Shade paid the coachman who had been watching the excitement, he asked around among the other idlers doing the same and learned that someone had spread a rumor that the upper ranks of the Stone Masons Association had accepted money from the royal family and intended to negotiate peace with them.
The fury that had been building against the Anjou Royal Family for more than a decade had thus been ignited. Before Shade and Iluna arrived, some stonemasons had already intended to besiege the Stone Masons Association and drag out the "traitors" for judgment. Fortunately, some people were still rational enough to try to stop them, leading to the current scene where the two sides were nearly brawling with weapons in hand.
