Osenfott spoke as he reached into his pocket with his right hand, took out his deck of cards, and drew the top card:
"To keep you from thinking I'm playing you—I'm not—let me first prove that this card really is with me."
The card was placed on the table, its face illuminated by the dim yellow flame.
The front of the card contained only white, black, and cool tones surrounding those two colors. A slender woman in a hooded robe, her facial features hidden from view, stood at the center of the card with her arms spread wide. The Holy Grail floating between her arms was the most finely detailed part of the entire illustration.
There were no other clothes beneath the robe, while the Holy Grail cleverly covered the sensitive areas. Interestingly, her naked body instead gave the image a strange, sacred sense of motherhood. She wore no shoes, standing barefoot upon the earth. The background showed endless fields and a chain of exceedingly blurred villages in the distance.
The upper right corner bore the number 12, while the upper left had a small "Flower" symbol. Between them, at the center of the card's upper edge, a black vertical line was drawn inside a white circle. This was the mark of the "Founding" series.
At the very bottom of the card was a small blank space containing four lines of tiny text:
