When Miss Higgins heard the special pronoun "He," her heart jolted, and the panic on her face became even more obvious. Then, hearing what Shade said next, she gritted her teeth and stood up. After telling Mrs. Miles under no circumstances to turn around, she went to stand beside Shade at the window.
In her eyes, the window was filled with black mist, so she could not see the scene within that enormous camp, like an empire of ants. Shade took a deep breath to steady himself, then asked out the window:
"Could you appear now and meet with us? I already know of your existence, and I know you have been waiting to witness the final story."
After speaking, he waited several seconds. Seeing no reaction outside, Shade could only change his approach under Miss Higgins's curious gaze:
"O great God of Wealth and Trade, Golden Master, please forgive my presumptuous summons. Please come here to make a deal. May Your holy name forever exist amid the ceaseless circulation of wealth, and may Your shadow forever rest upon the most sacred gold."
As his words fell, Miss Higgins saw the black mist that had shrouded the camp slowly begin to rotate without any wind. The mist gradually dispersed, until she too could see the camp beneath the tower in the darkness.
What happened next was something she truly felt she would never forget for the rest of her life.
Those black shadows, which had seemed fixed in place by space itself, all began moving at that moment. The countless silent shadows left the stalls and facilities they had been guarding. Through the dense paths between the stalls in the thin darkness, they converged toward the Clock Tower like a river formed from droplets returning to the sea.
The entire
