"Heart of the Living Dead!"
Embedded in the ice was a letter sealed in an envelope. After obtaining Shade's permission, Miss Benanis removed and opened it:
"Last summer, the Peace Church acquired this item during the Coldwater Port Incident.
A young man living in the harbor lost his lover. After coming into contact with the curse of Mermaid's Song and witnessing an indescribable thing in the deep sea in his dreams, he sought out the Scarlet Order of his own accord. In exchange for becoming a voluntary sacrifice and dying after enduring every torment, he had the Evil God Order use divine arts to resurrect his dead lover."
As she read the letter, she quickly skimmed through the rest upon reaching this point, then regretfully handed it to Siris behind her:
"You tell it. I don't like this story."
The young Blonde Young Lady continued reading the story in the letter:
"Blasphemous and filthy rituals resurrected the dead young woman as one of the living dead, but at the cost of a damaged soul and her own transformation into an ugly Fishman. She became a member of the Scarlet Order and participated in the Battle of Coldwater Port. After being wounded in that battle, she fled into the deep sea. Yet last winter, she came ashore again in the dead of night, hoping to recover the sacrificed man's broken corpse. She was discovered and defeated by a Church patrol on the shore. Her heart was the Heart of the Living Dead."
Siris understood why Miss Benanis had not wanted to finish telling the story herself:
"The Church definitely did nothing wrong, but this story is far too sad."
