Rune Locks were spatial-like seals created through rituals. They could only be opened by mastering the specific key—that was, specific incantations and gestures. Otherwise, they could only be forcibly unlocked through methods such as Shade's Thaumaturgy—Door Key—or Relic—Universal Key.
And clearly, this Rune Lock composed of Ancient Elvish was far more complex than any of the examples mentioned in Basic Runelogy and Runelogy From The Beginning.
Though Illustrious Miss had mastered the correct unlocking method, this was still her first attempt at opening it.
