After turning the key and pushing open the door, Shade had not even had time to give the two girls further instructions before a dazzling light swallowed him.

It was like waking from a long slumber, or opening his eyes after resting through a peaceful afternoon.

His head ached faintly from an uncomfortable sleeping position. As he realized that he should not have fallen asleep just then, the rustling sound of pages turning reached him from all around.

Still somewhat drowsy, Shade supported himself on the table before him and slowly sat upright. As he looked around with bleary eyes, he was still savoring the dream that was gradually fading away.

This seemed to be a library. In the open space between the bookshelves, students sat on both sides of two hundred-meter-long tables arranged in a crossing shape, their heads lowered as they read and did homework. Everyone wore identical robe uniforms, differing only slightly in color depending on their grade.

Looking farther away, there were even more such tables, and this was only one corner of the library.

The long tables were piled with books, while golden candleholders floated above them every two or three meters, providing light. It was probably nighttime.

Since this was a library, everyone kept quiet as they moved about, with no one speaking to anyone else. Still groggy
