Startled and suspicious, Shade almost immediately extinguished the floating orbs of light around him and looked toward the abruptly appearing cave in the darkness:

"Underground Cavity? How is that possible? Why didn't my Enhanced Space Perception detect such a large subterranean space?"

As a special metal, Mithril could indeed cause supernatural phenomena near mineral veins, but that definitely did not include the ability to block spatial perception.

Standing at the melted opening, Shade hesitated as he looked down into the darkness. He naturally would not recklessly jump straight in, and the view provided by Dark Vision showed that the place below resembled a naturally formed underground cave, empty of anything.

This was not completely sealed off. Underground cracks around the cave connected it to other places, but for some reason Enhanced Space Perception had failed here, so Shade had no idea what this cave actually was.

Then he suddenly recalled what Professor Yuke Wood had said earlier. He took a green leaf that had been turned into a toy from his pocket, but nothing happened when he held it before his eyes. This indicated that Shade had not been affected by the so-called Hallucinogenic Gas.

He then replaced that ordinary leaf with the Youthful Immortality Leaf. This time, after holding the leaf before his eyes for a moment and then lowering it, the world seen through his right eye truly changed.

It was not that an illusion had been dispelled, but that things which had originally been hidden had appeared.

Massive tree trunk roots burst from the bottom of the underground cave, then spread throughout the cavern and extended along those cracks into places beyond sight.

Attached to those pitch-black roots were white sacs, or rather, things like insect eggs. More precisely, those eggs were semi-transparent; they only appeared white
