Time seemed to pass for a very, very long while again—so long that Shade no longer remembered exactly how long he had lived in this forest. He only knew that the moon was drawing ever closer to him.

He had gathered enough crystals. All he lacked was one final small piece; then those crystals that sealed away dazzling radiance could be brought together and become the true remnants of the Original Moon.

Thus, on some unrecorded night, Shade carried all his crystals and found the traveling merchant in the woods once more. The place where she stood had become a Crystalline Forest made entirely of crystal. Beneath the moon, the Crystalline Forest reflected the cold moonlight, breathtakingly beautiful, but Shade knew that the moon he sought was not here.

As usual, the merchant stood in the forest waiting for him. Full of hope, Shade asked:
