He appeared to be a kindly bald middle-aged man. Like most Old Gods Shade had seen before, this god was dressed simply, rather similar to Bennett, who ran the Accordion Hotel in Vesta Woodland.
Though he had not yet spoken with Him, Shade knew at first sight that this was the Old God mentioned in the mission requirements—the Lord of Walls, the Guardian of Home and House, and also the god who had protected the three Witches.
Interestingly, when Shade tried to use the Fate Manual, he saw a human symbol appear above the god's head. It then turned into a Bloodkin, then an elf, then vanished, then became a bird. In short, this Thaumaturgy truly could not be used to peer into a god.
He first sheathed his longsword at his waist, then carried the lamp onward until he stopped at a suitable distance from the counter:
"Greetings, Guardian of Home and House."
The girl behind Shade trembled, while the "middle-aged man" behind the counter smiled as well:
"Hello, guest from afar."
He carefully studied Shade, then sighed:
"If the Sage had not already chosen you, I would have liked to choose you as well. Your persistence and attachment to home suit my ideals very well. Even among my most devout Believers, there are few like you—they merely believe in me, while you are truly devoted to your own home. Answer me one question, guest from afar. What is home to you?"
"It is a place that must never be abandoned."
Shade answered without thinking. That was his truest belief.
The god behind the counter laughed:
"Yes, yes, a perfect answer. That is why I say it is such a pity that I was no longer around in the era when you were active. This answer is excellent. I
