The maid led the group straight to the foot of the three-story building. The space here had been almost completely dyed a dim yellow, and Shade even felt as though he were looking at the world through glass.
Not long after she gently knocked on the door, another maid inside the house opened it. She looked exceptionally young and beautiful, and both Shade and Wei Ge were certain that she was wearing a Skin Object. The maid who had led them there turned around and retraced her steps, while the maid from inside continued leading the group of eleven into the building.
Dim yellow light illuminated the enormous entrance hall. Strange halos at the edges of their vision made everything seem even more melancholy, like sunlight from a setting sun falling across the floorboards of a childhood home. Soft sofas stood against the walls on both sides of the hall, with small cabinets holding Flower Pots separating them.
"Please wait here. The Skin Crafter will meet each of you separately."
The maid spoke to them very respectfully. The five groups then sat down in different places, tacitly keeping their distance from one another.
Only after Shade sat down with an arm around Wei Ge did he begin observing the furnishings of the enormous hall. Although this was a Fourth Epoch building, its interior style was very similar to the Fragrant Residence.
The building itself did not seem especially unusual. Directly opposite the entrance was a staircase leading upstairs, while corridors extended toward the left and right wings of the house from either side of the hall. It was a very common layout.
The flowers atop the cabinets were bright and fresh, as though they had just been picked, and even the dew on their petals reflected the dim yellow light.
