None of the previous thaumaturgies had worked, but when Shade threw out a spinning fireball containing the violent nature of the First Fire, the Blood Cocoon, which had already shrunk to five meters tall, finally reacted.
A wrinkled "little hand" tore through the Blood Cocoon and grabbed the fireball. Chaos Remnants exploded with a thunderous boom, yet merely blackened that "little hand," while the three Witches all let out mournful sighs at the sight.
The evil thing's other hand also reached out from a crack in the Blood Cocoon. As both hands tore outward, the crying that shattered the silence nearly brought Gina and Miss Bladewei to tears.
Shade too felt strange emotions stirred by that crying. Before this, the Outlander had never welcomed the birth of a new life—though both before and after leaving his homeland, he had witnessed old lives passing away. Thus, his feelings at this moment were especially peculiar.
But this did not stop him from calling forth the crimson Moonlight again as he faced the thing emerging from the torn Blood Cocoon.
The first two [Life] had both taken the bizarre form of Giant Babies. This [Life] was likewise a Giant Baby, but when it fully broke free from the Blood Cocoon and raised its arms to block the Moonlight while crying, Shade's hand slowed.
Aside from its excessive size, it was almost indistinguishable from an ordinary human infant. It even reminded Shade of Little Beren, who had been reborn at the foot of the Snow Mountain.
But Shade's hand paused for only an instant. He had not been overly affected by its mental contamination. Though the evil thing's appearance was indeed highly deceptive, the powerful Life Force it emitted, like an erupting volcano, could never belong to an infant.
