Looking at the Black Skirt Girl in front of him, who had extended her arm toward him, Shade sighed. After exchanging a few words with the voice by his ear, he reached out to take her hand, but at the last moment, the Black Skirt Girl withdrew hers.
"We merely crossed paths. Why would you place such trust in me?"
With both hands behind her back, she looked at Shade. He shook his head.
"Helen, did I have any reason to help you at that party back then?"
Helen Blake watched Shade, the corners of her lips slowly lifting. The two looked at each other until Helen suddenly laughed.
"Oh, sir, I thought my disguise had been quite successful. It took me quite some effort to persuade little Zina to help me."
"Your disguise was successful?"
Shade asked suspiciously.
"That is not important. I merely wanted to see what kind of person you are in your own era, sir."
She took a step back with her hands behind her back, moving closer to the hole that spewed black mist.
"You truly are an interesting person, far more interesting than my elder sister and I imagined. But what lies below is not a place you should enter. Please wait here a moment. I need to retrieve something. To welcome my elder sister's return, a sacrifice is needed."
As she spoke, her body tipped backward until she fell into the bottomless abyss.
Two-thirds of the Red Butterflies followed her down into that abyssal cave, leaving only one-third behind to protect Shade.
The surroundings were utterly silent. Only the distant sounds of revived evil spirits wandering through the mine could still be heard.
"Helen. Grace. I never expected Sister Devlin to help them lie as well."
The calm did not last long. As
