While Saint Derain Square bustled with activity, death itself was cold and silent. Five people sat around the bonfire before the stone door, the firelight casting their shadows in all directions, where they swayed like demons and ghosts from a fairy tale.
Everyone watched Shade as he continued:
"The 'Saint Tree Scar' ritual is almost complete, but the problem of the Interstice remains unresolved. I imagine things are already a complete mess outside. We need the power of Death's Chosen One to end everything tonight. But who, exactly, should become the Chosen One?"
Joey Barton had already lost his qualification. Even if he had not, Shade would not have allowed him to become the Chosen One. And now, everyone had voluntarily come here from the Interstice, which was equivalent to voluntarily committing suicide within it.
"Whoever leaves this place first will be the Chosen One, because everyone else ahead of them is already dead."
