As Shade focused all his attention on the notebook before him, doing his best to recall and organize his words into a complete logical framework, time seemed to pass with astonishing speed.

Even "she" did not disturb the utterly focused Shade in the woods that quiet afternoon. It had been a long time since Shade had concentrated on mental work outdoors, and he found that writing in the undisturbed forest with the wind blowing around him actually felt rather nice.

He planned to use the contemporary mathematical knowledge of the Sixth Epoch to prove the so-called "Euler's Formula" from his homeland and explore some of its extensions. But halfway through outlining it, he realized the subject involved far too many issues, and the available mathematical tools were still lacking. He could only supplement them himself with things he considered common knowledge, such as Mathematical Induction.

Although this was knowledge Shade had learned in his homeland, he was not simply copying it out from memory. Besides, he could not remember the original text of the paper or its proofs word for word. Omissions and errors were inevitable; Shade could only say that he was doing his utmost to construct this bridge between complex exponential functions and trigonometric functions as completely as possible.

"Only once I started writing did I realize just how much there was to write."

Thinking this, he circled the chapter title he had just listed with his fountain pen and wrote the word "pending" after it. He then wanted to briefly write down the content of Mathematical Induction, but he had only written the second letter when a sharp pain struck his head. Something had fallen from above and hit him:

"Ow!"

Covering his head, he reached out and caught the object as it fell aside after striking
