Background

Augustus served as a priest of Mister Dawn for decades and held considerable prestige among clergy and believers in Tobesk. Even the Archbishop of a major diocese consulted him on important matters. He did not advance beyond the ordinary priesthood for thirty years, but his piety was never doubted. 39

In his youth, he survived a high-risk Level 0 Relic loss-of-control incident that killed everyone else involved. The event left the afterimage and power of the Deathbringer Angel imprinted upon his soul, though he initially remained an ordinary clergyman. 841 1563 2468

While in his thirties, Augustus formed a mutual attachment with Sister Matilda of the House of the Blind in Middlesburg. Their responsibilities and affiliations separated them; Matilda later died in an accident about fifteen years before Shade uncovered their history. 588 589

He awakened as a Ring Arcanist unusually late in life and joined Saint Byrons through a series of coincidences rather than through Church channels. Although his talent was considered unexceptional, his Church standing and contacts made him indispensable to Schneider's group. 38 39

During his 1853 trip to Middhir Fort City, Augustus visited Matilda's grave and vanished through a Spatial Anomaly beneath Sikar Mountain. He is compassionate and self-sacrificing, but his Angel connection and repeated confrontations with death have left emotional wounds.
