Fiasde was the name of the Nagaril People, a noble name.
As Lin Qi's father, Neil naturally did not need his child to follow the Nagaril custom of taking a Lowly People's name, or even going without a surname.
His child could have any name. In fact, a Federal name would have been better, as it would reflect his special status. He was a half-breed, a mixture of a local and a Federal citizen.
People like him would receive certain social benefits that ordinary people could not, both now and for a long time to come.
At least while the United Development Company continued to exist, and before the Federation's control over the New Federal weakened to the point where it could no longer interfere in business here, that was how things would be--
Incidentally, the Bayer Federation solemnly declared: We have never interfered in the internal affairs of any country. We only protect the legal rights and safety of our merchants! With so many benefits, perhaps giving the boy a Federal name would be a good idea.
Neil had not done so, however. He had given the child a local name. In the mythology of the local religion, Fiasde was the name of a demigod. He had killed the Evil God and consumed the Evil God's flesh and blood, becoming a demigod.
In truth, the locals, even the Privileged Class, would not easily give their children the same names as figures from mythology. To them, that was blasphemy against the gods.
Neil did not care about any of that. He liked the name, just as some people in the Federation actually shared names with the Avatar of God walking the earth. They lacked reverence for the gods.
Even though, in some respects, they were also devout and steadfast believers.
