The Lehrmar Republic was located in the north-central part of the East Ocean. In the past, this country had barely existed in the world's awareness.
Because it was too far from the rest of the world! By far, this meant the distance and journey between it and other countries.
Aside from some deep-sea trade, hardly anyone went to Lehrmar for tourism, and the Lehrmar People did not travel to other countries either.
When technology was underdeveloped, people could not travel far! Perhaps, at the very beginning, the farthest people could go was the area around where they lived. But with the advancement of science, people could travel farther and farther.
The world had not changed. Technology had made the world smaller.
The Lehrmar People had once had few worries, but now, they did.
The Lehrmar Republic consisted of nineteen districts in the Lehrmar Islands, and the President was directly elected by the people of those nineteen districts.
Its greatest difference from a federation was that the people's power to appoint and dismiss the President had been expanded. They did not have to choose the presidential candidate nominated by a political party; they could vote for anyone, including themselves! However, if a directly elected President had no solid political foundation, he could only be a figurehead.
In Lehrmar's history, there had actually been no shortage of such figurehead Presidents. Their emergence could essentially be regarded as another form of compromise brought about by increasingly acute conflicts between political parties.
As the figurehead took office, conflicts between the parties would ease, until they intensified again at the next opportunity.
