Agent Evan slowly drove into the garage.

This was a middle-class neighborhood outside Bu Peien's Central Ring.

The area inside the Central Ring was basically off-limits to the middle class. Of course, that was putting it too absolutely. For middle-class families that were infinitely close to the Upper Class, they could still grit their teeth and find a suitable place.

The Federal Government was truly fair, equal, and free.

After all, the homeless crowded into the parks, the lower classes crowded outside the ring, and the middle class lived between the outer ring and the Central Ring.

Only the Upper Class could live inside the Central Ring.

The neighbors around you were always people of comparable standing. If you were worth a million, your neighbor would neither be worth only tens of thousands, nor would they be worth several million or tens of millions.

Everyone's social standing was always fairly close. There was no pressure in getting along, and perhaps that was the source of the Federal people's happiness! I had never worried about someone flaunting their wealth in my face, because the schools and communities for poor people only had poor people! Put that way, this method of distributing social resources according to clearly defined classes was actually adhering to the principle of fairness.

Because of his work and family, Agent Evan was considered a member of the middle class.

The Federal Government's welfare benefits were excellent. It was all taxpayers' money anyway. High-risk industries could offer much higher pay than ordinary jobs—except for the police! Evan earned around twelve hundred dollars a month, and with everything else included, his monthly income came to fifteen hundred.
