"They never intended to negotiate with us at all!"
The Foreign Minister let out a sigh.
It was the first time in his life he had ever felt so helpless. Perhaps the word "helpless" did not exist in his dictionary; it required even more inadequate language to explain the feeling it conveyed.
Right now, he felt utterly helpless.
Peng Joe had already assumed a posture of surrender, yet the Federals would not give them even the slightest possibility or hope.
There was nothing wrong with having the ministers tried as war criminals.
They had ways to resolve such minor matters.
But having the Emperor, or even members of the Imperial Family, tried as war criminals was clearly making things impossible.
No, it was not making things difficult. It was an outright refusal.
Would Your Majesty the Emperor agree to become a war criminal, be put on trial, and perhaps even be hanged? Even if he fought to the death, he would never agree!
Since they were going to die anyway, why should they humiliate themselves?
The other members of the negotiating delegation were equally dejected. The Federation had made it clear that it was unwilling to stop the war, yet they might very well be held responsible for the failure of the negotiations.
The Deputy Head sat to one side. "What if we loosen our conditions a little in other areas and lower this demand somewhat?"
"If the Emperor and the Imperial Family are not involved, we can choose a few nobles to hand over."
"That way, they can save face, and we can obtain the result we want?"
After listening, the Foreign Minister felt that it was indeed a possible solution.
Any opportunity that might advance the negotiations had to be seized firmly! Besides, negotiation was mainly about talking.
