After accelerating, the two aircraft used to launch target drones took off. Hanging beneath them were not bombs or missiles, but two slightly miniature aircraft.

These aircraft were launched using fuel similar to that used by missiles—or rather, they were like missiles attached to aircraft, and they were very fast.

When the target-drone launch aircraft reached the designated altitude, two oddly shaped jet aircraft began to take off.

They produced even louder noise as they accelerated, but their acceleration was also faster. Before long, they had shot into the sky.

As the Chief Engineer remotely directed the launch aircraft by radio, the two planes pulled up immediately after the target drones were released.

The released target drones spurted flames from their tails and suddenly lunged forward, beginning an erratic flight.

The two jet fighters that caught up from behind followed briefly before immediately launching missiles.

Because they used new gunpowder and an improved ignition method, the missiles had already reached tremendous speed the moment they left their launch bays.

They caught up with the target drones in barely three or four seconds and successfully shot them down.

The entire process was not long. It was basically—piu (target drone released)—vroom vroom (target drone flying)—hum... (fighter following and entering capture mode)—shhk (missile launched)—boom (it exploded!).

The whole process took less than twenty seconds, leaving people feeling... utterly baffled.

Even the generals from the Western Military Region were somewhat bewildered.

They did not quite understand what it meant for one flying object to be blown up by another flying object, but fortunately, the Chief Engineer could explain everything scientifically.

"...We improved the fuel formula so that the missiles could gain tremendous acceleration during the initial stage of launch, thereby increasing their overall flight speed and reducing the time needed from launch to impact..."
