The Investigation Team had a house in Bu Peien specifically for work. It had been built quite some time ago, mainly for handling confidential matters.
There was more than one house like this in Bu Peien. There were many throughout the Federation—in fact, there were so many that it would be difficult to count them all without making a careful tally.
The Federal Government had no shortage of assets. If all its assets were counted, the Federal Government could actually be considered a massive "conglomerate."
The only difference was that the conglomerate's senior management kept changing, and no one could ever grasp true power.
According to the Federal Charter, the people were the masters of power. In reality, however, the masters could not control their own assets...
It looked like a joke, but it was no joke at all.
That was why taxpayers' "opinions" mattered so much to the government. Once the people raised the banner of "taxpayers" and put on the bearing of the "true owners," even the Presidential Palace had to yield.
After all, they were the masters of this country, weren't they?
The Army Admiral looked at the lively city and the pedestrians on the streets, feeling somewhat wistful.
He had visited Bu Peien many times, but never once had he come for himself.
Back when he had been an Army Lieutenant General, a Major General, or a Commodore, every visit had been for work.
The Federation's military had not been highly valued in the past. On the one hand, there were historical reasons. On the other, the Federation had no need to wage war abroad or at home. Thus, the Federal Government's thinking at the time had been that it was enough to "maintain" the military's existing size and combat strength.
They had never considered expanding
