An officer experienced many things over the course of his life, but not all of them left behind one or two people he would remember for a lifetime.
The instinct of all living things was always an admiration of the strong. People might pity the weak and sympathize with them, but they would not keep the weak in their memories.
Perhaps for a time, their memories of the weak would remain clear, but before long, they would forget them.
But their memories of the strong would remain forever.
The Director had become the person in the officer's memories who could not be ignored, because of his ruthlessness.
He was unlike some of the people the officer had met before. They would threaten you with words, saying things that would frighten people, then exaggerate the consequences until people could no longer bear them psychologically.
The Director was very direct. He simply took action without wasting words. That decisive style instead magnified the fear he created.
When that voice came through the receiver, the officer felt somewhat desperate.
"They're innocent." It took him more than ten seconds to say those dry words in a slightly hoarse voice.
The Director laughed as if he had heard some amusing joke. "The bodies you threw down from the building were innocent too."
People were always like this. When they became victims, they would start emphasizing every factor that worked against them.
This is all unfair...
